Suzuki Early Childhood Music
The Early Childhood Music Program is a Parent-Child class for children 3-36 months of age. The curriculum includes nursery rhymes, lullabies, circle songs, action songs and stories. The focus of the class is to develop pre-instrumental music skills and skills in listening, vocabulary, numbers, socialization and movement. Parents receive a CD for listening at home.
Each week, our 50-minute class includes a Suzuki Early Childhood Music session and Immersive Play in motor and sensorial activities, properties and materials such as light, color, sound, paint, paper, clay and nature. Students are welcome to visit during “Open House” hours to continue their explorations. Through these activities, we:
- Nurture creativity, ability, a love of learning, problem solving skills, parents as teachers
- Construct knowledge
- Reflect on the learning process, our work, discoveries and the expression of these
- Create understanding, stories, art, music, wonder, and a community
Immersive Play Session
In our Infant & Toddler Lab, children and their parents will have access to a variety of open-ended materials. The materials will be introduced into the lab in a gradual and thematic way -- adding materials and changing emphasis each month.
Children construct knowledge by attributing meaning to their experiences. The playing your infant and toddler does now will serve as the experiential foundation upon which his or her future learning will be built. With that in mind, materials and activities will be selected to promote curiosity, expression and experimentation; target multiple senses and intelligences; and offer multiple levels of simplicity, complexity and fun.
Parents receive information each month detailing the new learning environment and materials and explaining ways to observe and facilitate your child's learning and play.
Throughout the class, the teacher, in collaboration with parents, create a small journal including photos and some video of your child with reflections on learning taking place.
Students and parents may visit and play during any Open House hours to continue their play and exploration with instruments and materials.
